Much of what we encounter in our fitness lives is that paradox…achieving the focused state of a “calm rage.”
Whether lifting, taking a fitness class, running, biking…we try to master that ability to be simultaneously lost, on auto-pilot, in our zen-place, and hyper-focused, aware of everything, and driven.
We block things out, without blocking everything out.
Obviously, general athleticism helps (body awareness, proprioception) and specific skills helps (practice, practice, practice)…but the ability to summon Calm Rage is really facilitated by…

For lifts, lock down the midsection.
Equal and easy.
