The mouth is the gateway to the body.
It’s believed that oral inflammation is directly (and causally) related to the bodily inflammatory response/diseases.

Exercise could be seen then as a variable to improve oral health. It’s associated with other health-related behaviors: eating healthy, not smoking, maintaining proper BMI, etc.
But at the same time, exercise could be undermining oral health. Exercise might contribute to dry mouth and changes in saliva that are detrimental to oral health.
Similarly, suckling on sports drinks, or using exercise as an excuse to scarf down cupcakes and cap’n crunch
…then it correlates with poorer oral health.
