Plagiarism: “the uncredited use (both intentional and unintentional) of somebody else’s words or ideas” and “…few intellectual offenses more serious than plagiarism in academic and professional contexts.” (Purdue OWL)
Stealing ideas, designs, concepts and misrepresenting ownership…it’s all way too easy in our techno-world where every “idea” seems ubiquitous.
…Isn’t everything now just common knowledge?
Why do people steal and misrepresent original ownership?
…the reward: it’s all about the money, the glory!
…kleptomnesia: “generating an idea that you believe is novel, but in fact was created by someone else…Once we accept a piece of information as true, we no longer need to worry about where we acquired it.” (Grant, A., 2014)
‘Spose there’s other reasons, too.
Sad, since even young children appreciate that originality and creativity are desired over dullness and deceitfulness, “children in the five to six year age group rated the puppet who directly copied as being bad in comparison to the most creative puppet, whom the children deemed to be good.” (Rogers, S., 2014)
Which is more deserving of comfort and consoling?
…the stolen idea that is now bastardized and prostituted from it’s righteous creation and intent
…the person with undeveloped talent, creativity, originality and morality.
