Anderson’s famous 1968 study on likeableness found that of 555 traits:
Liar, Phony, Mean, Cruel received the most unlikeablessness (Liar being the worst).
Supported in 1987 by Hampson, Goldbert, & John analysis of 573 traits:
Cruel, Dishonest, Spiteful, Bad received the most unsocially desireable prize (Cruel being the worst)
Elaborated in 2007 by Wheaton
The traits rated as positive contribute to group success (ie, Understanding, Loyal, Dependable) whereas those unlikeable traits tend to suck the life out of relationships.
Amazing people don’t get that…and just as amazing how those traits sustain themselves in the face of being so maladaptive.
